PADI Peak Performance Buoyancy
PADI Peak Performance Buoyancy
Build on the skills you learned during your Open Water course and master the art of buoyancy.
Learn to ascend and descend with almost remote control, glide effortlessly over the reef, position yourself perfectly to observe marine life, use less air and expend much less energy.
Included in the OTB Diving Peak Performance Buoyancy Course
- PADI Peak Performance buoyancy Manual/eLearning
- 2 PPB training dives
- PADI Certification card
- Rental of all scuba equipment
- FREE use of Dive Computer
To enroll on a PADI Peak Performance buoyancy diver specialty course you must:
- Be an Open Water diver
- Have recent diving experience – we recommend completing a scuba review if you have not dived for 12 months
- 10 years of age or older
- Medically fit to dive
1 Day PADI Peak Performance Buoyancy Specialty Course
The PADI PPB course consists of two sections:
- Knowledge Development – read the PADI Peak Performance buoyancy manual and complete the knowledge reviews/eLearning
- Open Water training – 2 x training dives
During your training we will slowly build your confidence and ability as you develop the skills necessary to become a PADI Peak Performance buoyancy specialist.
You are now a certified PADI Peak Performance buoyancy diver.
Orientation & Knowledge Development
We start the PADI Peak Performance buoyancy specialty course with an orientation that includes completion of paperwork and the PADI Medical statement.
The PADI Peak Performance buoyancy specialty course consists of 2 training dives at local dive sites.
There is also a Peak Performance buoyancy specialty manual to read and two open book knowledge reviews to complete that your dive instructor will guide you through and review unless you select the eLearning option.
Some of the subjects you will cover include:
- Basic Weighting Guidelines
- Proper weighting, trim and streamlining
- Fine tuning buoyancy through breath control
- How is buoyancy control affected by air consumption
- Controlling buoyancy when wearing a dry suit
- Buoyancy control during descents and ascents
There are 2 Peak Performance buoyancy training dives to complete to become a buoyancy skills specialist.
Peak Performance buoyancy training dive #1
After a buoyancy check you will make a perfect, slow controlled descent, adjusting for neutral buoyancy as you approach your planned depth.
After the descent, we will go for a nice relaxing dive using an efficient fin kick. We will ask you to focus on staying neutral and on your breathing and not touching the bottom.
Your instructor will ask you to hover for 60 seconds. Neutrally buoyant with minimal movement, using just your breath control to make minor adjustments.
You will finish the specific skill portion of the dive by adjusting your weights and practicing hovering vertically, horizontally and upside down.
This dive is usually a relaxing, long and shallow dive that is fun.
Peak Performance buoyancy training dive #2
Another long, slow and shallow dive, during training dive # 2 your dive instructor will encourage you to focus more on your breathing.
We work with you to improve your air consumption and make those final minor adjustments to ensure you become a Jedi Buoyancy Specialist.
Your Dive Instructor will be paying particular attention to your finning action, encouraging you to fin using long, slow strokes and gliding after each one, which means you expend less energy during your dive.
Neutral Buoyancy Hovering Skills
You will also practice more hovering during the dive including one hover for at least 90 seconds.
To finish the dive off, we will demonstrate and encourage you to practice how to manoeuver closer to a clear bottom without touching it and then back away using buoyancy.
Congratulations on completion of your course and you are now a PADI Peak Performance buoyancy specialist.
